With the L & R Boat Latch, launching and retrieving your boat should be easy. But when the roller is not extended enough, this could lead to challenges. This is where the Roller Extender option comes into play.
When it’s working well, the roller acts as a bumper, wedging between the bow of your boat and the towing eye. It also helps keep the boat from moving up and down on the trailer when being towed. But when the roller is not long enough, this can lead to challenges with launching and retrieving your boat.
The Roller Extender is used where the roller needs to be able to project out further to the bow. This is more commonly required on Towing Eye (Aluminium) boats.
The Roller Extender kit includes 2 x 6mm plates and you will need six ½” bolts 1” long (M12 x 25 mm), galvanised bolts with washers and nylon locking nuts.
There are 4 adjustment horizontal positions. The bolts locate in one of these and the other pair of bolts go in slotted holes, allowing the roller/wedge to swing up/down for vertical adjustment. This can project out 43 to 91 mm. (1.7” to 3.6”)
The 2 lower bolts are fixed so that the bolt or nut heads are located against the vertical Roller supports of the winch platform, as shown, limiting movement.
Here is an example of an Aluminium Towing Eye boat where the roller should be further forward.
In this case, the snare is very close to hitting the winch platform when the roller is against the bow.

There are four horizontal adjustment positions and the bolts go into slotted holes which also allow for vertical adjustment. The full extension position is from 43 to 91mm (or 1.7 to 3.6”).
If the snare on your L & R Latch is close to hitting the winch platform when the roller is against the bow you may need the Roller Extender. The roller should be far enough extended so it stops the boat and also prevents the boat from moving up or down (i.e., it wedges it in place).

“The launch and retrieve system is an absolute beauty”
I have got to say that the launch and retrieve system is an absolute beauty. I quite often launch and retrieve my boat by myself and it makes the start of the fishing trip dry and hassle free and at the end of the day I’m in and away whilst others are getting wet, cold and frustrated. After a year or more of use it is blemish free and a testament to the quality of the stainless used and the build quality.
“Boating at the ramp cannot get any easier”
It’s three years since I installed the Release and Retrieve Boat Latch to my 5.5 metre AMM plate boat and another to a 7.4m AMM Tournament boat.Boating at the ramp cannot get any easier, simpler or expedient utilising this boat latch. While everyone else is doing battle with winch handles, ropes and chains. I am either boating over the horizon or on the way home.

“I am now the envy of boat owners”
Hi Guys, I bought one of your latches from your stall at the Brisbane Boat Show this year to install on my new 560c Barcrusher. The installation of it was so easy. No spacer plates or extra welds were needed as it fitted perfectly. I am now the envy of boat owners at the Hervey Bay Boat Club ramp as I launch and retrieve my boat by myself with ease.
