Adjust the angle using the Wedge Kit. You can also adjust the angle using a different winch post and winch top, which your trailer supplier can organise for you.
We have a heavy duty version of our snare for fibreglass boats that measure over 7.5 metres (25 feet). The snare can manage 7.5 tonnes.
To help you work out the angle you can refer to our How to Install Guide (Page 16) which sets out how to measure step by step.
Sure. The ability to adjust is the key and will allow for a fast set up of the L & R Boat Latch.
We’ve offered some suggested winch post and winch platform setups as well as some tips on installing for the best results in our “The Right Winch Post & Winch Platform” PDF.
The best and easiest fix for this problem is the Roller Extender. This allows you to use the boat latch without having to cut, bore or weld.

This is a common situation and as the trailer is designed it would require the latch to be installed too far forward without support at the front end of the latch. However, if you install it this way the latch is likely to bend under heavy load.
The solution for this problem is to use the Latch Support product. It is part of the Wedge Kit and will allow the latch to be installed in the correct position for towing.

- Check to see if the trailer is properly aligned to the centreline of the trailer. This will ensure it can glide on and off easily.
- Make sure the snare is hitting at the correct point.
- Ensure your trailer is not too deep.
- Check if the roller is stopping the boat before the hook on the latch can engage.
Download Installing the Product and refer to page 10 for more information.
For optimal use, the latch should meet the snare in the correct position. Refer to our “Before You Install” Guide for visuals and more information.
Download the Before You Install Guide and refer to page 3.
Your boat should be securely held on the trailer to restrict up and down movement, even though the winch is tensioned up. The roller will also ‘wedge’ the boat, which further restricts movement. Don’t forget the rear tie down straps which will secure the boat if you have to brake suddenly while driving.
Catamarans
Yes. The L & R Boat Latch has been used for many years on many different types of catamarans with great success. Some adaptation is generally required since catamarans are not standard, and neither are their trailers.
